Show anyone a picture of The Bridge, and they'll instantly be able to tell you that they're looking at the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's an international icon, of not only Sydney, but of Australia too. And rightly so. It was (and is) a marvel of engineering when it was built in 1932, taking over 8 years to be constructed, spanning 500m across the harbour.
Since moving to Sydney earlier this year, I have viewed The Bridge on countless occasions and still awe at the grandiosity of the structure. A focal point of the harbour, it's a beauty from all angles. And that's what this post is all about. Highlighting some of my favourite locations and photos that I've taken of The Bridge.
Evening Dawn - Mrs Macquarie's Point
It's common for photographers to have that one image that started it all. An image that is special to them, that signals the start of their passion for the craft. And for me, it's this one. This particular afternoon I had traveled up to Sydney during the day, before making my way out to capture sunset from Mrs Macquaries Point. I perched myself atop a sandstone cliff, and slowly watched colour fill the Western sky. I ended up missing my train home, but hey, it was worth it right?
Evening Ferry - Milsons Point Wharf
This scene is from the front doorsteps of Sydney's Luna Park. The waterfront view can be accessed via a short walk from Milsons Point station, or why not catch one of the city's iconic ferries across the harbour to Milsons Point Wharf. This is one of the city's great vantage points, and offers one of my favourite views during the Vivid Lights Festival which lights up the city annually from May to June. Which leads me to ...
Electrifying - McMahons Point
A short walk from North Sydney leads down to McMahons Point, offering a perfectly framed scene of the city's two iconic landmarks. While the point is home to the eyesore that is Blues Point Tower, it provides a great vantage point looking back east across the harbour.
Sunset Over The Harbour - Circular Quay
Circular Quay is a landmark in its own right, offering sweeping views of the harbour. There's a little known public elevator near the south-eastern corner of the Quay that takes you two stories up to the Cahill Expressway. Walking west along the pedestrian access, I positioned myself directly above the station below to capture this image of the evening ferry coming in to dock on sunset.
Dawn Of A New Day - McMahons Point
This photo was also taken from McMahons Point, during one of the most glorious sunrises I had experienced in quite some time. The 4am alarm this particular morning was most definitely worth it as I marvelled at the burst of colour slowly spreading through the morning sky.
