Fog. Forest. Ferns. Victoria’s Mt Donna Buang drive is simply stunning for landscape photography.
Starting from Warburton, I made my way up to the Rainforest Gallery before turning off on the C505 road to Mt Donna Buang. As I climbed in elevation (the summit stands at 1250m), morning fog shrouded the higher reaches, snaking its way through the canopy of eucalypts and myrtle beech.
I’ve been to both Warburton and Healsville on a number of photography missions, yet I hadn’t yet taken the C505 road between the two. While a steady steady flow of cars lingers on Healsville’s Black Spur Drive, I counted a total of three cars on my drive through Mt Donna Buang. It’s just as scenic, yet many times more tranquil.
With the lack of weekday traffic, I took my time along the drive. Often pulling over to park my car and wander through the ancient forest. The undergrowth was lush, the canopy rose high and new photography opportunities awaited me at every twist and turn.
The drive quickly became a personal favourite and one that I’ll be returning to again soon. Here’s a selection of my favourite images from the morning’s adventure.
