We’re often out chasing bolder scenes and ideal conditions. Yet the drive forward can blind us to progress we’ve made and numb us to the moments that mattered.

For as long as I can remember – and long before that – I’ve been on the road with my father. Each year, we try to meet up across Australia and beyond – to catch up, slow down and even take some photos together if we’re lucky.

Nature has given me much: refuge, respite and an ever-changing canvas to capture. But as I began to reflect this year, my ledger with nature became far from balanced. 

The flood of high-fidelity images generated by AI has left me feeling uneasy. Many people now struggle to discern genuine from generated – and prioritise convenience over credibility. So where does that leave landscape photography in the age of AI?

Brilliance can be blinding. So by moving beyond sunsets, your photography can become a more meaningful representation of landscapes as they are – not just momentary light shows.
